Gilks, 25, joins Crewe's Jon Otsemobor as a second free transfer for Grant, who has also been linked with some decidedly more costly moves.
It is unlcear whether the signing of Gilks, who made 187 appearances for the Spotland club, will put paid to a move for Celtic man Derek Marshall, but he is certain to provide competition for Paul Gallacher and youngster Joe Lewis.
