Doncaster issues proper denial

The official club website has unveiled a new statement from Chief Executive Neil Doncaster fully clarifying the club's position in the transfer market.

The Daily Mail was among a number of newspapers reporting today that City's resistance over the sale of Dean Ashton had finally been broken by an £8million bid from West Ham. Doncaster, whose initial denial was unconvincing, has now come out fighting.

"We have not agreed a fee for Dean with West Ham for £8million," reads the statement,"nor indeed accepted any other bids for any other players with any other club."

"As reported at our team news press conference on Thursday, Dean is touch and go for today's game as he has an injury and will have a late fitness test."

Team sheets for the crucial clash with Watford, hopefully including Ashton, will appear on this site as soon as we have them.
