Norwich new boy Robert Earnshaw spoke enthusiastically of the 'crazy' situation that sees him thrust into an East Anglian derby days after joining the Canaries.

The Welsh international signed a three year deal and met the press at Reading's Madejski Stadium after watching his new team mates crash to a 4-0 defeat. Earnshaw will cost City an initial £2.75million with £750,000 due to the Baggies based on appearances, but is confident he will enjoy being a Canary and repay the investment in goals.

"I've always scored goals," said the former Cardiff man. "I've always scored when I've been playing and I just hope it carries on. Norwich have given me that chance and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

"It's going to be very exciting for me," he added when asked about his derby debut. "It's crazy it should be that fixture."

Despite his side's capitulation against Reading, City boss Nigel Worthington was able to be upbeat about his biggest transfer coup since attracting Dean Ashton to the club a year ago.

"He is a great capture for the football club and I'm delighted to get him," he said of his new charge. "We needed someone of that calibre to push us on. Hopefully he will do his job and score goals and it's up to the others to work hard and create them for him."
