Fleming:Defeat Hurt

Fleming admits that the defeat left the players very frustrated as Norwich lost for only the second time at home this season.

“It was just one of those days really,” said the City central defender. “They came and frustrated us, worked very hard and got men behind the ball and we struggled with that.”

Carrow Road is still somewhat of a fortress as Norwich have the best home record in the division. This record has haunted City against Watford and Bradford as they employed a 'Shut Up Shop' system with packed defences.

“We have done it in the past,” admitted Fleming. “When we were struggling and Nigel first took over we did that and caused teams all sorts of problems. It's something we have to come to terms with. We know about it and we have dealt with it in the past and I am sure we will do it in the future. Teams are coming to Carrow Road knowing they will be in for a game so they are raising theirs.

“It's very difficult and we have to come to terms with it. But there's no panic, it just didn't happen today. There weren't many chances in the game at all. Both sides were quite tight and one goal was always going to break it and they managed to get it.”

“It's very disappointing. We knew it was an opportunity for three points.”

Norwich are known for being a good passing side and Fleming believes that Bradford did all they could to restrict the flow of Norwich's passing.

“I think we have to get the ball down and pass it quick and sharp and we'll cut teams open,” he said. “No matter what formation we play, if we pass it quickly and accurately nobody can live with us. We have proved that in the past. Derby tried putting men behind the ball and we cut them to shreds in the second half. I think the tempo of the game had a lot to do with it today; we didn't really get firing on all cylinders.

“But take nothing away from them, they put in a good performance.”

Fleming was not panicking however and believes this is just a minor hiccup and that Norwich will be back to winning ways sooner rather than later.

“It is not all doom and gloom, we are still top of the league and two points ahead, it's all to play for,” said Fleming. “There's long way to go, 19 games, so let's look forward not backwards.

“It is a long way and it won't be for lack of effort, that is one thing I can guarantee and the manager certainly can guarantee it.

“We will certainly try and give it our best shot and what happens will happen. There is a hell of lot of points there and there will be a lot of twists and turns before the end of the season. We just have to stay all together and keep grinding on.”
