Top of the list was the speculation over the facial injury sustained by Damien Francis a year ago in a training ground accident which also involved Leon McKenzie. City's Chief Executive stressed that it was exactly as it had been reported, an accident, in his column in the Eastern Daily Press. Several more sensational versions of events had been suggested on messageboards.
McKenzie's current absence from the Norwich line up was also confirmed as being down to an ankle injury, and nothing to do with any personal problems the striker may be experiencing
On a roll, Doncaster also emphasised that recent declarations of support for the club's management in the face of a poor run of results had been done on the initiative of the players in question, not at the club's behest. England international Robert Green and the increasingly mature Dean Ashton, who are both gaining reputations as eloquent and considered interviewees, had both given their backing to Nigel Worthington and pledged to turn things around.
Along with Tuesday's win over Cardiff, Doncaster's declarations will hopefully draw a line under a difficult period for the club.
