Norwich boss Glenn Roeder is attempting to use his encyclopedic knowledge of the youth side at Newcastle to bolster his striking options.
Target man Andy Carroll is the subject of Roeder's newest raid on a resource which has already yielded the outstanding midfielder Matty Pattison.
Carroll is a 6 foot 4 inch striker and, according to his agent Peter Harrison, who also represents Pattison, would be keen on a move to Carrow Road.
Roeder is keen to add another target man with Dion Dublin shouldering the responsibility on his own at the moment. He will face competition from East Anglian rivals Ipswich, however, who have also had previous dealings with Harrison when securing the signature of Macedonian midfielder Velice Sumulikoski, who had a trial a Norwich.
Carroll's availability is likely to rest on the attacking resources available to Kevin Keegan. Michael Owen is fit and Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins are available. Norwich target Shola Ameobi is a potential backup, while Fabio Zamblera has joined from Atalanta.
