He missed out on Germany in 2006 after injuring himself against Belarus.

"That highlighted how precarious a position your life can be in. I want to take advantage, take everything on board and enjoy it," he said.

"Barring anything happening in the next 24 hours, touch wood, I should be fine," he added.

Green, who came through the ranks at Norwich City, was in Norfolk to open Norfolk FA's new football development centre on the day that Capello announced his squad.

Green made his England debut in 2005 while he was still at NorwichHe told BBC Radio Norfolk it was good that the battle to start in goal for England was so close between himself, David James and Joe Hart.

"I think it promotes a friendly and strong rivalry within the keepers," he said. "We know that every training session, every game every opportunity that we've got we've really got to take that chance.

"That can only promote people being on top form for the finals and the final games themselves.

"It's something we've really got to take as a positive, whoever's going to be playing will have to be playing well to keep the other two out."
