Fresh from newspaper rumours about a return to the Premiership, Robert Green's agent has weighed in with some comments to stoke the fire.
This morning's Daily Star linked Harry Rednknapp with a swoop for Green, having missed out on Antti Niemi and decided Mark Schwarzer is too pricey, and Andy Evans, who represents the Norwich keeper, revealed the admiration was not unreciprocated.
"We are aware of and flattered by Portsmouth's interest and so are Norwich," Evans told Sky Sports, although quite how City could be flattered by someone trying to nab one of their best players is anyone's guess.
"If the two clubs can agree a fee we would be keen to talk to them," he added, hitting on what may prove to be a stumbling block. The reported belief at Fratton Park is that Green can be unsettled by the thought of a return to the Premiership ahead of the World Cup, which would bring the price down.
The approach seems at odds with today's multi-million pound swoop on White Hart Lane, from which Spurs seemed to make a hell of a lot of money for players for whom they clearly had no more need.
It is possible, of course, that Green may be hallucinating after sustaining a head injury which forced him out of the FA Cup defeat to West Ham shortly before the final whistle. He is likely to be given the all clear to play on Saturday, whether it be for City or Portsmouth.
