Glenn Roeder has failed to get his targetted new face on board in time for the weekend fixture with Leicester.
The departure of Ian Murray was followed swiftly by news that Norwich were waiting on a decision from a player over whether or not to join on loan. The player in question's club have agreed to the deal, but the man himself has asked for time to decide.
Roeder had hoped to announce the deal by the 2 o'clock deadline required to register new players for Saturday games. His frustration was evident in quotes on the Norwich website bemoaning the need for modern footballers to spend 24 hours considering a loan move rather than jumping at the chance of first team football.
City face the Foxes without Luke Chadwick and Adam Drury, but Jon Otsemobor should return from injury.
