Norwich City have ended the five-year reign of Nigel Worthington after this afternoon's televised defeat to Burnley.
Worthington had been under increasing pressure after the club's failure to regain their Premiership status last season was followed by another recent poor run of form. Despite City's encouraging start to the season, the defeat at Carrow Road against Burnley followed a reverse at Plymouth and a blank against Crystal Palace.
The club announced the decision to remove the Ulsterman in the aftermath of the loss, surprising nobody who had seen the board's statement earlier in the week demanding an improvement in performances.
Martin Hunter, brought to Norwich by Worthington over the summer from his position as England under-19 manager, will take over the team in a caretaker capacity, with the search beginning already for a new man.
