Nigel Worthington has distanced himself from stories linking the club with various defensive reinforcements at the same time as it was revealed that left back Adam Drury will be unavailable for two weeks.
Various newspapers and websites had a deal for Wigan's David Wright all but completed, but the Canaries manager dismissed the £300,000 deal as 'totally untrue'.
Drury, meanwhile, was forced off at half time in the draw with Crystal Palace, and is likely to be replaced by Simon Charlton while he recovers from an ankle ligament injury. Charlton has been used in a number of roles but mainly as a centre back since joining Norwich a year ago, even featuring in midfield in the opening game of the season. Left back is probably his strongest position, however, and the former Bolton man will have important league games with Southampton and Leeds, as well as a cup tie with MK Dons, to prove himself.
Also looking to prove themselves will be new boys Jason Jarrett and Peter Thorne when they line up for Keith Webb's reserve side against Southampton tonight. Thorne has featured as a substitute in each of City's games so far, and wil hope to prove himself capable of dislodging either Dean Ashton or Leon McKenzie. Jarrett is still short of match fitness following a pre-season hamstring injury, and joins Paul McVeigh in attempting to impress enough to get back into Nigel Worthington's starting eleven.
