Keith Webb had a first team back four at his disposal last night and a clean sheet against an attack led by former England international Les Ferdinand formed the basis for a second victory of the season.
Mathieu Louis-Jean, Simon Charlton, Craig Fleming and Jason Shackell lined up in front of Darren Ward, with fellow Championship hopefuls Ian Henderson, Jason Jarrett and Jim Brennan also starting.
There was mixed news for the side, however, as Brennan's 73rd minute strike secured a win tainted by an early injury to Shackell and a penalty miss from Jarrett. The centre back, who had been a regular starter in Nigel Worthington's team before Calum Davenport's arrival on loan, was carried off after a collision with Francino Francis after just ten minutes.
An x-ray this morning has revealed no fracture to the affected lower leg, but scans will also be carried out later today to reveal the extent of the injury.
The 1-0 victory, City's first since their 3-0 thrashing of Fulham, was secured by a superb late save by Ward, who kept out a shot from Joel Ward with just three minutes left on the clock.
